Dry Needling in Leland
When a muscle won’t release on its own, no amount of stretching or rest seems to fully fix it. Dry needling targets those stubborn areas of tension and spasm directly, offering relief that other approaches can’t always reach. It works for both acute injuries and long-standing chronic pain.
Targeting Tension at the Source
Dry needling is a trigger point therapy, distinct from acupuncture in its focus on areas of active spasm and muscular dysfunction. Using thin acupuncture needles, the exact area of tension is located, a needle is inserted directly into the spasm or tender point, and it’s left to work for five to ten minutes. In some cases, gentle electrical stimulation is added to enhance the release.
Chronic Tension, Acute Pain, and Everything In Between
Dry needling works well for patients dealing with tight or hypersensitive muscles, chronic spasm and tension, tendonitis, and pain that’s limiting range of motion. It also plays an important role within a broader care plan. When a muscle is too spasmed to respond to an adjustment or rehab exercise, dry needling can reduce pain and tension enough to make those treatments accessible that would otherwise be too much to tolerate.
What to Expect Before, During, and After
Most patients feel little to nothing during treatment. In areas of significant tenderness, there may be a brief sensation at the initial insertion, but it passes within seconds. Immediate relief is common, particularly for acute conditions.
For chronic cases, some residual soreness may follow and typically resolves within 12 to 24 hours. Occasional minor bruising can occur as well. As for how many visits are needed, some conditions resolve in a single session while chronic and tendonitis cases generally respond better with several treatments spaced over time.
